FoundationWorkshop, Dallas
Last week I had the joy of going to Dallas for the FoundationWorkshop. This is a group of world renowned photojournalists who spend a week helping wedding photographers refine their style and craft to capture better images.
I was honored to be selected as one of only 16 photographers for FW5. I'll tell you all that it wasn't has easy as I had planned. I was challenged to photograph a dance school. Easy enough I thought, who wouldn't find little Ballerina's cute.
Well the assignment proved to really hard for me. I had to become comfortable with the students so I could get close enough to create compelling images. It took me both days to just find my comfort zone. Dance is fast moving and the light leaves much to be desired. Dance studios are also filled with lots of stuff that can clutter a background. I couldn't see the students because I was too busy being distracted.
Anyway, I had a hard time and really was only creating some below average snap shots. Thanks to Mark Adams, one of the mentors, who took the time to open my eyes and help me see everything around me.
Nevertheless, the workshop was just awesome. If your are a photographer, I encourage you to step out and give FoundationWorkshop a chance. It will be hard, but beneficial to your creative vision.
I have prepared two photo montages from my time. One is of the participants while the other shows the work from my assignment.
I hope you enjoy.

This montage will show a few images of the awesome people I got to know.

It was a great week. I learned a lot and really appreciate the time of everyone who made this a great experience for me.
Take care....
